COVID-19 and neurological conditions

Although most people with COVID-19 get better within weeks of illness, some people experience post-COVID conditions.

Post-COVID conditions are a wide range of new, returning, or ongoing health problems people can experience more than four weeks after first being infected with the virus that causes
COVID-19.

Even people who did not have symptoms when they were infected can have post-COVID conditions. These conditions can have different types and combinations of health problems for various lengths of time.

According to a study published on May 11, 2021,  80% of hospital COVID-19 patients have neurologic complications.

Symptoms like Brain fog, reduced Concentration and anxiety count to the most common post-COVID-19 symptoms.

Brain Fog

Brain fog is not a medical or scientific term; it is used by individuals to describe how they feel when their thinking is sluggish, fuzzy, and not sharp. We all experience this feeling from time to time.

Perhaps you couldn’t think clearly when you were sick with the flu or another illness.

Maybe you were jet-lagged and your thinking was sluggish because it felt like it was 2 AM.

Or perhaps you took an antihistamine or another medication that made your thinking fuzzy for a few hours.

In each case you probably just waited to get back to normal, whether that meant recovering from your illness, adjusting to the new time zone, or waiting for the side effects of the medication to wear off. But what if your thinking didn’t return to normal?

A large number of Patients who are recovering from COVID-19 reporting 'Brain Fog' symptoms long after they recovered from the acute respiratory symptoms  of the virus.

Chronic Anxiety and lack of concentration are other reported symptoms.

How can we help?

While some of these problems may be due to permanent damage to the neurological system of the patients, most of the time these symptoms can be helped with therapies like Neurofeedback therapy.

Neurofeedback therapy is a safe, drug-free and FDA-approved therapy that can be understood as an exercise plan for the brain. Medicare and many other insurance plans cover the therapy.
